A computer programme
to assess the risk factors for a patient developing Coronary heart disease

The analysis is done on a single screen which can be popped up over existing
clinical or other computer software, and moved around the screen so that data
can be easily transferred from existing records.
The data screen is self explanatory We have found that if shown once, any user
can use the system without further instruction.
The analysis is quick and the time needed to perform the analysis is less than
5 minutes - typically 4 minutes for a new analysis, and 2 minutes for a subsequent
analysis.
Previous results are recalled using a single button on the screen.
The programme employs clear visual signals to enable easy use.
The main features are -
- Each risk factor entered is colour coded as:-
red(alterable +ve risk factor)
green(no risk)
purple(unalterable + ve risk)
blue(not recorded).
This enables the user
and the patient to easily pick out the area of concern and concentrate on them.
The total risk Score is given as a number but much more important as a bar graph
on a thermometer which goes up as risk increases and down if it falls. This
can be used to demonstrate the effect of life style or treatment interventions.
The programme on completion prints out a set of patient advice leaflets based on the individuals +ve risk factors, as well as a patient assessment and a copy for the user's records or for a referral letter. These leaflets are all personalised to the patient concerned.
The scoring system is
based on the Scottish Heart Health Study and related to the Dundee Risk Disk
scores.
It also gives a Framingham Equation Heart Disease Event Score for drug treatment
assessment.
