DRUGS in the prevention of heart disease

There are three main areas where drugs can be used in the prevention of coronary heart disease

They are:

• Drugs to lower blood pressure

• Drugs to lower blood fats (cholesterol)

• Drugs to help people stop smoking

 

There are also a few occasions when drug therapy can be used to lose weight and in the treatment of alcohol addiction, but these are outside the scope of this general information system as their use is confined to very special circumstances.
